WPD releases Saturday's 'Booze It and Lose It' numbers

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Wilmington Police Department charge more than a dozen people with DWIs in their weekend 'Booze It and Lose It' campaign.

According to Officer Mark Anderson, with WPD's Traffic Unit, there were 18 DWIs on Saturday night from 11 p.m. to 2:50 a.m. at the intersection of 15th and Market Streets.

There were also 2 non-DWI related charges.

Officers seized nearly $11,000 in cash, a handgun, and marijuana from one vehicle. They also towed another vehicle which was left abandoned before the checkpoint.

Police are investigating both incidents. 

Agencies involved in this campaign are WPD, Leland PD, Whiteville PD, Carolina Beach PD, New Hanover Sheriff's Office, & Brunswick Sheriff's Office.

According to Officer Anderson, this is the second checkpoint of the year and the traffic unit is scheduled to perform at least 30 more in 2013.

The number is similar to last year's checkpoint efforts.
