Stolen gun found during traffic stop

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) –  Wilmington police officers arrested the passenger of a vehicle that was pulled over for a traffic stop Thursday night, according to a news release.

Officers asked the people inside of the vehicle to step out of the car when they noticed open alcohol containers inside. A search of the vehicle found a .40 caliber semi-automatic handgun reported missing from Tabor City.

WPD reports that 21-year-old Tresvonte Daison Anders said he put the weapon in the center of the front seats. Officers say they also found 1.2 grams of powder cocaine in his pocket, according to WPD.

Anders is charged with carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a stolen firearm and possession of cocaine. As of this report, he is being held at the New Hanover County jail under $25,000 bond.

Scotchman arrest

The next morning, a New Hanover County Sheriff's deputy detained 18-year-old Austin Daniel Hinckley. Just after 7:00 Friday morning, Hinckley robbed the Scotchman at 4101 Masonboro Loop Road, according to police.

An employee told police that Hinckley had both hands in the pocket of his sweatshirt when he demanded two cartons of cigarettes and money. He's charged with common law robbery and currently in jail under a $11,000 bond.

Car theft investigation

Wilmington police are investigating an early morning robbery near the intersection of Carolina Beach Road and Shipyard Boulevard. A man reported to police that a group of 3-4 men came up to his car at the intersection just before 4 am Sunday.

He told police that one man pointed a gun at him, demanding he get out and give up his money. The victim said he was hit over the head and does not remember much else, according to a news release.
