HARRISONBURG, Virginia – James Madison hammered out 14 hits and took advantage of 10 walks to storm past UNCW, 17-5, in Colonial Athletic Association baseball action on Friday.
The Dukes ran their winning streak to nine and improved to 11-6 overall and 4-0 in the CAA. The Seahawks saw their five-game winning streak halted and dropped to 11-7 on the season and 0-1 in the league.
Mat Batts (1-2) was saddled with the loss, allowing eight runs, all earned, on seven hits and a walk in 3 and 2/3 innings. JMU's Patrick Toohers (2-2) cruised through seven innings, allowing three runs on six hits, walking four and striking out three.
Michael Bass led UNCW with three hits and reached base safely in all five trips to the plate. Corey Dick launched his third homer of the season.
For JMU, Matt Tenaglia collected three hits and knocked in four runs while Chad Carroll drove in four runs on a pair of hits.
Up next: The series continues on Saturday with another 6:30 p.m. start. Jordan Ramsey (1-2, 1.91 ERA), the reigning CAA Pitcher-of-the-Week, takes the mound for UNCW while the Dukes counter with lefthander Luke Drayer (2-0, 1.80 ERA).
