Employees at DAK Americas in Navassa learned Tuesday that the company is considering closing all or part of the plan, according to Ricky Lane, Communications Manager.BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Officials in Brunswick County aren't letting the DAK Americas facility leave the area without a fight.
The company announced in February it could close all or part of the Navassa location, which employs 600 people.
This week, a group of economic development leaders in Brunswick County visited DAK Headquarters in Charlotte in an effort to convince them to stay open.
DAK corporate told the officials that this will be a business decision and it should come in the next few months. They said nothing is off the table yet, including closing the whole plant, keeping a portion open, or investing new money into the site.
Three hundred and fifty people are considered full-service employees through the DAK facility, and another 250 work there through contract.
The facility has three units: a polyester staple fiber, a PET resin that's used in soft drinks and water bottles, and a raw material that's used to make the other two.
