WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - The Wilmington Police Department is working on a new initiative called Tips on Wheels. According to department e-mails, the program would train company drivers to report crimes.
Officials say, the proposed program still has to go before city leaders before anything can happen.
Department emails state the Crime Prevention Unit would train company drivers, such as tow truck drivers, taxicab drivers, public works drivers and emergency management drivers, to give a detailed suspect description, be a good witness, and not to get involved beyond reporting the incident.
They go on to state that as of March 1, the WPD has nine companies signed up to be part of the program.
