COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Congressman Mike McIntyre was in Columbus County Monday for the 2013 Seventh Congressional District Youth Summit.

The annual conference is designed to allow students in the district to voice their ideas to improve the country.

"I truly look forward to this opportunity to talk with you about your concerns and to hear your suggestions about how I can best work to serve you and reflect your views in Washington," McIntyre wrote in a press release.

45 juniors from 12 counties took part in the 12th annual youth summit.

Jimbo Perry, the founder of the Little By Little mentoring program, was the keynote speaker for the event. McIntyre said he invited Perry to speak because, "he is an example of what hard work and personal dedication can achieve for ourselves and others."

Miss North Carolina, Arlie Honeycutt, was also in attendance.
