WILMINGTON, NC - (WECT) - Around 500 tourism leaders from across the state met at the Wilmington Convention Center starting on Sunday for the annual Governor's Tourism Conference.
Organizers say one of their focuses this year will be the state's growing film industry, and how to use it to boost tourism. They say both the film and tourism industries marked record years in 2012.
Those who work at the state's welcome centers say more and more people are asking where they can see all the movie locations.
"People want to go see where movies are made there's a magic in movies," said Wit Tuttell, the Director of tourism Marketing. "Especially movies that are made in NC, everything from Dirty Dancing to Blue Velvet, 20 years go by and people still want to visit those things."
This is the first time in 13 years the annual conference will take place in the Port City.
