NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - Two school buses were involved in an accident at Carolina Beach Road and Cathay Road around 4 p.m. Friday.

The buses were coming from Ashley High School, according to Valita Quattlebaum with New Hanover County Schools, and there were 30 students on one of them and 25 on the other.

A State Highway Patrol official says that one bus was trying to slow down for a red light, when another bus behind it, which was having brake issues, smashed into the back of the first bus.

Emergency crews were called for medical attention. There were some minor injuries, and two students were taken to the hospital.

The rest of the students were transferred out to other buses and taken home.

No charges will be filed.
