WPD to offer free educational classes

Posted: Updated:

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -- The Wilmington Police Department is launching a new program to cut down crime and educate the community in one of our area's toughest parts of town.

The department is teaming up with the City of Wilmington to offer free educational classes for adults at the Hemenway Community Center on MacRae Street.

Linda Rawley, with the Wilmington Police Department says this program will help curb crime down and provide additional resources to the neighborhood.

"A lot of times people just don't know where to go.  They don't know who to talk to," said Rawley.  "So we're hoping this partnership will be able to give people the answers and link people with resources and make it the perfect community center."

The program will offer GED classes as well as resume writing, personal safety, and other courses too.

The Hemenway Community Center will host an open house on Friday, March 22, from 4 p.m. - 6 p.m.
