
Representatives from the WPD and NHCSO examine ways to handle prescription pills in the home.WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - The Cape Fear Coalition for A Drug-Free Tomorrow partnered with the Wilmington Police Department and the New Hanover County Sheriff's Office, Thursday, to address youth prescription drug abuse.
Representatives from the WPD and NHCSO examined ways to handle prescription pills in the home, especially when it comes to keeping them away from children.
Based on the 2012 Search Institute Survey, 7% of New Hanover County youth used prescription drugs once or more in the past 30 days.
Nationwide, one in five teens have abused prescription drugs, and next to marijuana, prescription medications are the most commonly abused substances, according to officials.
