Edwards visits Cape Fear

Senator John Edwards is taking a few days off the vice presidential campaign trail with a rest stop at Figure Eight Island.

Edwards, carrying his daughter Emma Claire in his arms, arrived at Wilmington International Airport around 4:30 Monday afternoon. His wife Elizabeth and son Jack came down the stairs a few seconds later.

The Edwards have a home on Figure Eight Island, and will spend a few days there before getting back on their chartered jet.

The last time Edwards was in our area was the July Fourth weekend, before John Kerry selected him as his running mate.

The motorcade, complete with Secret Service protection and a team of traveling reporters, is an indication just how much his life has changed.
