WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – City Council in Wilmington Tuesday night approved spending more than $350,000 on a design contract for downtown improvements.
The deal with Andrews Consulting Engineers is part of the city's Riverfront Park Master Plan, which council approved in 2012.
According to the resolution approved by council members, the Riverfront Park Improvement Project includes several smaller projects along the from Market Street to Princess Street, including repairs to the Market Street bulkhead, stormwater repairs at the intersection of Water and Princess Streets, ADA improvements in Riverfront Park, repairs to Water Street between Market and Princess Streets, and looking into expanding the restrooms at Riverfront Park.
Council also approved a resolution introduced by Charlie Rivenbark that deals with the Azalea Festival Street Fair.
Council voted unanimously to allow the Azalea Festival to use the Water Street Parking Deck and the Ligon Flynn Parking Lot on Second Street for free during the weekend of April 12-14.
The festival will allow vendors who do business during the street fair to use either the parking deck or parking lot at no charge. The festival will have to provide any staffing that is necessary, and will also pay to relocate any monthly customers of either location during that weekend.
