CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WECT) – The inaugural season of youth baseball on Pleasure Island will include free use of the town's ball field.
Town leaders voted unanimously Monday night to waive any field use fees for Pleasure Island Athletic League, according to Mayor Bob Lewis.
Lewis said the town needs to have a set contract with organizations, and council members found no need to charge teams to play on the field this year.
Brian Treece, League Operations Manager, said Monday night's decision was a positive one for the growing baseball community on the island.
"We've had a great turnout so far," he said.
More than 160 children aged 4 – 12 have signed up, according to his estimates. Treece said April 6 will be the league's opening ceremony followed by the first day of games on April 10.
