
Residence on W. 30th where Cleveland Police suspect cockfighting
Cleveland Police hold a bag containing a roosterCleveland police received a call for possible dog fighting in a vacant home located at 2186 W. 30th St. on Saturday, March 2, 2013.
The preliminary investigation reveals that around 4:30 pm, second district officers arrived on scene and they could hear noises from the basement.
Upon checking the basement, 40 men were caught red-handed during a cockfight that was taken place at the time of the raid.
All of the men were detained and questioned.
The Cleveland Kennels were notified, responded and removed forty three live roosters and two dead rosters from the home.
Apparently a bedroom was being used as the ring.
Officers confirm that The Border Patrol and Immigration & Customs Enforcement were also notified of the investigation
The home was found to be occupied and the homeowner was placed under arrest for felony cruelty to animals and gambling charges. Second district detectives say they are going to consult the Prosecutor's Office for charges concerning the other men involved.
