Barry Gene Gurganious (Source: Pender Co. Sheriff's Office)PENDER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A registered sex offender living in Currie was arrested Tuesday for more sex-related charges.
According to the Pender County Sheriff's Office, Barry Gene Gurganious, 42, was charged with first degree statutory sexual offense and indecent liberties with a child.
Detectives say the offenses happened between April 1992 and April 1993 and involve one female child.
According to the sheriff's office, Gurganious is a registered sex offender for similar previous charges in 1996. Detectives said Gurganious pleaded guilty to indecent liberties with a child in March 2000, which triggered the registered sex offender status.
It is important to note, the charges and arrest on Tuesday are unrelated to the arrest of Gurganious in 1996.
