Suspect still on the loose after shots fired into funeral for local rapper

EAST CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

Panic erupted after someone walked up and fired into the Omega Baptist Church on Hayden in East Cleveland during a the funeral of Cedric Morgan Friday morning.

Reverend Benjamin Finney says, "We were just about to start the funeral service and shots came thru the church. The church was packed. People were running over each other. Screaming and hollering. I have never seen anything like this before."

Janice Goodwin explains, "All of sudden bing bang bang. People started moving. I never experienced anything like that in my life."

Friends say the viewing took place, and just moments after the opening prayer shots rang out.

East Cleveland Mayor Gary Norton was inside too attending the up and coming rapper's funeral. "He was part of the community who has a mother and father who are in shock and really don't know what to do," Norton said.

The 24-year-old musician was gunned down in front of his home last month.

Chambers Elementary School just around the corner went on lock down moments after the shooting.

Nobody inside was hurt, but most were really shaken up.

Friends say Morgan was laid to rest about an hour after the church shooting.

The suspect who fired shots at the funeral is still on the loose.

Police are also searching for the person who murdered Morgan.
