Agenda from December showing Mayor Willis asking council to approve heat pump
Receipt stating Scott McCaffrey gave town of Navassa a discount
NAVASSA, NC (WECT) - We're shedding new light regarding an investigation surrounding the town of Navassa.
We showed you how the mayor approved using town equipment on projects that don't relate to the town, without the consent of council members. We're seeing the town may have some benefit as well.
Wednesday, we received more documents from our public records request we submitted with the town.
According to minutes from a meeting on December 20, Mayor Eulis Willis wanted council to approve the purchase of a heat pump for the town's utility building. But the item was postponed due to lack of support. We also have a receipt from one week after that meeting, showing a man named Scott McCaffrey installed a heating unit.
The receipt shows McCaffrey only charged the town for parts but not labor, saving Navassa more than $3,000. You may remember McCaffrey owns land where Mayor Willis authorized a town employee to do some work for him.
Some council members have said, although McCaffrey did save the town money, they were against him installing the HVAC unit because it was used.
Again, all of this is under investigation with the SBI.
