NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A sergeant with the New
Hanover County Sheriff's Office is now the only certified police K-9 trainer in
southeastern North Carolina.
Sgt. J.S. Croom achieved the certification after completing
a 10-week, 400-hour training course by Police Service Dogs Inc.
The certification brings training techniques that enforce a
reward system in training the K-9s versus the corrective method used in the
past.
According to the sheriff's office, having a certified
trainer in the office allows for more effective training, cost savings, and the
ability to train with other agencies.
