BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) - An EMS supervisor in Bladen County is on paid suspension after she says she tried to protect herself during an emergency call.

Lynda Sanders has been with the county's EMS department for five years. She responded to a call last Friday night that sparked this investigation.

According to Sanders, she and another emergency worker were called out to get a psychiatric patient.

Sanders said a 911 dispatch operator told them police assistance was not needed.

She says once they got there the patient was unruly and she sprayed mace because she felt her life was in danger. Sanders tells us, Saturday morning she was told she was suspended.

We made a public records request to get a copy of Sanders' employment history with the county. We also talked with some of her friends who do not believe she should have been suspended.

Monday evening, Bladen County manager sent us an email stating, this matter is being thoroughly investigated.
