WILMINGTON, NC - (WECT) - Sunday, the Wilmington Casting Call hosted an Academy Awards Ceremony for Wilmington's extras. The Meet & Greet and Oscar Party took place at Station 21 in Downtown Wilmington.
Organizers said they wanted to do something for extras because they work very hard for very little reward.
"Long hours, long hours, re-shoots, standings, sometimes you sit there for three hours before you do a shoot with the celebrates and sometimes you are shooting there nonstop," said Bryan Riscinti, who has been an extra in multiple productions including "Eastbound and Down" and "Safe Haven."
"Without them, you really don't have a movie," said organizer Joe Montani. "Not to say you are slighted, but we're the background and we help put the movie together." As part of Sunday night's festivities, extras got to meet each other, watch pre-Oscar events on TV, and even had their own awards ceremony.
Some of the proceeds from the event will go towards the Wounded Warrior Project.
