UNCW Press Release
WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Christian MacDonald fanned a career-high six in a career-long 7 and 2/3 innings as UNCW earned a split of a doubleheader against Lehigh with a 6-1 win in the nightcap. The Mountain Hawks topped the Seahawks, 4-1, in the opener.
The Seahawks evened their record at 4-4 with the series win while Lehigh dropped to 1-2.
Michael Bass and Joe Bertone led the Seahawks with two hits apiece in the second game.
In the opener, LU starter Mike Burke (1-0) stymied the Seahawks over 5 and 1/3 innings. He allowed one run on two hits and a pair of walks. UNCW's Jordan Ramsey (0-2) was the tough luck loser, going the distance and allowing four unearned runs while tying his career-high with seven strikeouts.
Up Next: The Seahawks have the midweek off before hosting the Hughes Bros. Baseball Challenge beginning on Friday. UNCW will take on Stony Brook at 4 p.m. with San Diego and Gardner-Webb opening the weekend at noon.
How it happened (Game 1): Lehigh plated four unearned runs as a dropped fly ball and passed ball accounted for all four runs scoring in the first inning. UNCW answered with a run in the bottom of the first, but neither team could score after that.
How it happened (Game 2): Leading 2-1 in the eighth, UNCW's Corey Dick and Christian Wolfe belted two-run pinch hit home runs to make it 6-1. Andy Auston snapped a 1-all deadlock in the sixth with a sacrifice fly.
Seahawks Dealing: Ramsey allowed seven hits and walked one while MacDonald allowed just four hits and a walk before making way for the bullpen. Ramsey dropped his ERA to 3.55 while MacDonald lowered his to 2.61. MacDonald was making his second career start and his previous career-long outing was just 2 and 2/3 innings last weekend against Kent State.
