WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – One woman is working to bring changes to an intersection after she and her grandmother were in car wrecks in the same spot in two separate incidents.
Blair Canady totaled her car at the intersection of Carolina Beach Road and Golden Road. She was hit by another driver while making a u-turn.
She claims the arrow was green and another car hit her. The other driver also claimed he had the green light.
"If I had been in a smaller car and it would have been a second later, I probably wouldn't be here right now," Canady said.
Canady's accident comes six months after her grandmother was involved in a wreck at the same intersection. In that crash, a man on a motorcycle was killed.
Now, Canady wants to make sure no one else is hurt or killed here.
She returned to the scene with a camera in hand.
She captured video of drivers frequently running the red light here.
They're either making a u-turn or blowing through the intersection when the light is red.
She believes something needs to be done before another life is lost out here.
"I'm always extra cautious at the intersection anyway. So, for me to have a wreck there just a few months later, it seem seems like too much to be a coincidence," Canady said. "One person has lost their life there and I'm concerned that it's going to keep happening. There's obviously there's some sort of problem there. I don't know if they need to get rid of the flashing yellows or get cameras or something."
Canady plans to take the video to the Department of Transportation in hopes of urging them to make changes to make the area safer for drivers.
