Some ice possible in central NC early Friday

RALEIGH, NC (AP) - Weather forecasters are warning that snow, sleet and freezing rain could greet morning motorists in trying to get to work in North Carolina's Piedmont and coastal plain.
The National Weather Service said Thursday that a winter weather advisory was in effect from just before midnight to mid-morning Friday. Snowfall was expected to be minimal, but a thin layer of ice of less than an eighth of an inch was possible.
Forecasters say commuters should allow extra driving time Friday morning until the warming day melts away the problem before noon.
Conditions from Charlotte and the Appalachian foothills should involve sleet with a trace of accumulated ice. Freezing rain and sleet are expected for the mountains, while sleet could fall in areas near the Outer Banks.
