CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WECT) - A house caught fire on Virginia Avenue off Canal Drive in Carolina Beach late Wednesday night. The five-story home went up in flames around 11:00 Wednesday night. Witnesses reported seeing large flames shooting from the front of the home.
Deputy Chief Granger Soward, ATF, and SBI are investing to find the cause of the fire. Neighbors said the house was recently built and had been under construction for the past two years.
They don't believe anyone was living there yet. Investigators have questions for contractors who left the house around 5:30 Wednesday evening.
Right now they do not have enough evidence to call it a suspicious fire. They are sifting through the house waiting to get answers from the contractors.
Soward says the house is about 25 percent damaged, most of it happening to the front room and surrounding areas-which you can see at a street view.
A worker from First Class Carpentry arrived on the scene and said crews recently did some work inside the home. He refused to comment any further and seemed upset and shocked.
