
PORTSMOUTH, VA (WECT) -After searching for more than ten hours and approximately 4,430 square miles, the Coast Guard has suspended the search for a man who reportedly fell overboard, just off the coast of Hatteras, North Carolina, Wednesday morning, according to officials.
A Coast Guard watchstander was contacted via satellite phone around 10:30 a.m. by the master of the merchant vessel Ice River. The master stated that a 33-year-old male crewmember was missing from the ship.
Officials say several crews are assisting in the search including Navy E-2 Hawkeye from Squadron VAW 124 and the HC-130 Hercules from Air Station Elizabeth City, North Carolina.
