NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Commissioners in New Hanover County approved Monday a $250,000 incentive grant for a local business to expand.
Wilmington Business Development asked the County to partner with the City of Wilmington in the grant which will allow Castle Branch to expand their current location into their world headquarters.
Castle Branch, which is located near Mayfaire Town Center, does employee background checks and recently grew into screening those in the health care industry.
The grant will be paid to Castle Branch over a five year period. The company will have to create an additional 400 jobs and invest between $9 and $10 million in improvements to their office building.
City council members in Wilmington will discuss the grant during its meeting Tuesday.
Septic Replacement Project
In the same meeting Monday, commissioners were split on support for a project to replace septic systems in two separate communities.
A 3-2 vote against the multi-million dollar project stopped the effort of improving the situation for families in the Marquis Hills and Heritage Park areas.
Commissioners Beth Dawson and Jonathan Barfield voted in favor of the plan.
If it passed, the group project with the Cape Fear Public Utility Authority would have charged families $5,000 to help with the hook up.
