Fair Bluff man shot walking to friend's house

FAIR BLUFF, NC (WECT) – Detectives with the Fair Bluff Police Department are investigating a shooting that happened early Saturday morning.

According to Chief J.H. Hewett, 20-year-old Deroy "DeQuinton" James was found sitting on the ground around 2:30 a.m. covered in blood in the 500 block of Gapway Road in Fair Bluff.

The victim told officials they were walking toward the River Bluff Apartments to get a bicycle from a friend who lives there when they heard a single gunshot, and James fell to his knees.

Hewett said James was taken to the hospital in the area before being AirLinked to New Hanover Regional Medical Center, where is in stable condition.

According to Hewett, it is believed the bullet entered and exited the left leg and then went into his right leg and lodged into his femur.

Hewett said a suspect has been identified and the investigation is ongoing.
