WEATHER: Cold, then wet, then dry - the ride continues

Posted: Updated:

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – A freakishly frigid start to the morning with temperatures in the 20s.  Although we will see a huge warm up with bright sunny skies, highs will peak below normal for this time of year at just above 50 degrees.

Monday night clouds will start to build into the region ahead of another, less potent cold front.  Lows drop to the upper 30s.  Showers chances will get progressively wetter from early Tuesday through Tuesday afternoon.  Warmer temperatures aloft mean we won't see intense shower activity with the passing of this front, but we will see consistent – widespread – coverage of light shower activity.  I'd be surprised if any one location picked up on more than a quarter to half inch (.25" - .50") through Tuesday evening.

Sunny and cool conditions are expected in the wake of Tuesday's front.  But by Friday a slow moving, deepening low pressure center will bring warmer and wetter weather into southeastern North Carolina through the weekend.
