
PENDER COUNTY, NC - (WECT) - A Pender County Sheriff's Deputy lost control of his vehicle Friday night, ran off the road, and hit a ditch.
The Sheriff's Office reports that around 10:30pm on Friday, two deputies were on Hoover Road in Hampstead, doing a security check in the area of South Topsail Elementary School.
When they got back to their cars, they noticed a car driving fast on Hoover Road headed west. Both deputies started to follow the car. While attempting to catch up to the car, Deputy Burke Bailey, allegedly lost control of the car, ran off the road, and hit a ditch. He sustained minor injuries, however the car was severely damaged.
The North Carolina Highway Patrol is investing the crash.
