Rob Cutting from State Farm Insurance said damage from space debris is classified as "falling objects" and is covered under a standard homeowner policy.
If your car takes a direct hit, this is also covered under a comprehensive auto policy.
Comprehensive coverage, under many policies, includes losses due to missiles, falling objects, windstorm, hail, fire, explosion, earthquake, water, theft, vandalism, riot, or being hit by a bird or animal. Falling objects aren't covered by collision coverage.
Cutting said he never had a claim filed for a house or car struck by a meteor.
Claims are handled on a case-by-case basis.
