WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – UNC and Duke fans are showing their team spirit any way they can before the highly-anticipated men's basketball game Wednesday night.
The rivalry runs so deep, fans are turning to bashing a car with a sledgehammer instead of your basic trash talking.
Buffalo Wild Wings® Grill & Bar is hosting a rivalry car bash with ESPN Radio WMFD AM 630 in order to raise money for the Brigade Boys & Girls Club of Wilmington and to get fans pumped about the Tar Heels vs. Blue Devils game.
Jeff Fountain Tire donated a truck for the event this year, and the Brigade Boys & Girls Club helped paint and decorate it earlier this month. Half of it is covered in Tar Heel fashion and the other side Blue Devils.
"We are excited about the 2nd Annual Rivalry Car Bash and appreciate Buffalo Wild Wings and ESPN AM630 holding this fundraiser for the Brigade Boys & Girls Club," said Angie Hill, Director of Marketing and Development for Brigade Boys & Girls Club. "This is a fun and unique event to help raise money for the Club to help support our after-school and summer programs for local youth who need it most. It is also great to witness people's true feelings about Carolina and Duke; the dedication to these teams run deep!"
It'll cost you a minimum of $1 to take a swing at the truck with the sledgehammer. All proceeds will be donated to the Brigade Boys and Girls Club of Wilmington.
The bashing will begin at 11:00 Wednesday morning and end an hour before tipoff.
Roy Williams' Tar Heels will play Coach K's Blue Devils in the Cameron Indoor Stadium beginning at 9 p.m. on WECT.
