Local contestant from 'The Voice, Season 2' will launch first album

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Katrina Parker from Season 2 of The Voice raised enough money to launch her first album.

Katrina Parker is from Holly Ridge, but has spent the last few years in California trying to reach her dreams as a singer.

We sat down with her for a Google Plus Hangout that we also streamed LIVE over YouTube.  She talked about her Kickstarter Campaign to try to raise money for her first album.  She needed to raise nearly $20,000 to produce it.

Parker says she's grateful for being raised in North Carolina and is indebted to her fans.

"I had a beautiful childhood," said Parker.  "I was treated really well.  I'm incredibly touched by the amount of support I got when I was on The Voice.  I really felt it, even if I couldn't talk to you I felt so supported and loved, and I really appreciate that."

She also gave some advice to her fans.

"I would say never give up," said Parker.  "I know everybody says that.  It's a little cliche, but it's true.  Just when I thought I couldn't do what I loved, just when I thought it was over for me, 'The Voice' happened.  And, it changed my life.  It was completely unexpected, and you never know what's around the next corner."

She'll be performing at the Hotel Café in Los Angeles on March 16

Parker was recently photographed attending parties from The GRAMMY Awards, including a party thrown by her old Voice coach, Maroon 5's Adam Levine.
