The Palestine Police Department is working a possible child abduction in Palestine.
On Monday, officers from the Palestine Police Department were dispatched to the home of an alleged victim. Once on the scene, officers met with the victim and her father.
Police were informed that the victim was waiting for the school bus on Brierwood Drive in Palestine when a stranger approached her. The victim reported being taken from the bus stop to another residence without her consent.
The victim was able to exit the residence before being injured.
"The child was never injured, does not show any signs of being injured, and has been seen by medical professionals. She doesn't have any injuries so we will proceed from this point," says Sgt. James Muniz of the Palestine Police Department.
People in the 100 block of Brierwood Drive say the school bus stops in several places on the street. We spoke to some of them on Monday night and none of them had heard anything about the possible abduction.
Detectives will be following up on information received during the initial stages of the investigation.
"We've talked to her father, we'll talk to her mother, and we'll talk to friends, relatives, school officials, and see what information they have. We'll also talk to some people in the neighborhood to see if anybody saw anything or anybody that was unusual or out of the ordinary in the area this morning," Muniz says.
The name of the school the child goes to has not been released but Sgt. Muniz says school officials have been notified of the possible abduction.
Right now, Muniz says the department has no description of a vehicle or suspect they are looking for.
Police are asking that if anyone in this area saw any person or suspicious vehicles to call the Palestine Police Department at 903-729-2254 or CRIME STOPPERS at 903-729-TIPS (8477).
