BETHESDA, MD (WECT) – A National Guardsman from Wilmington found a silver lining of sorts while recovering from injuries he received in Afghanistan.

Sgt. James Pierce, 31, got the chance to meet actor Bradley Cooper last week, People Magazine reports.

Pierce served with the U.S. Army's 514 Military Police Company. He was seriously injured in a suicide bombing attack that happened Oct. 1 of last year and killed three other members of the North Carolina National Guard, including Sgt. T.J. Butler.

Pierce was sent to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, suffering from broken legs, ribs and a collapsed lung.

He returned to the Wilmington area in December, but was at back at the hospital when Cooper stopped by. Cooper said that because a lot of veterans had reached out to him after identifying with the character he plays in his latest flick, Silver Linings Playbook, a screening of the movie was held.

A large turnout of about 200 came to the event, and Cooper said he spent three hours talking with the vets.
