WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - UNCW plans to do a comprehensive review of its athletics programs, according to a news release.
Chancellor Gary Miller announced the formation of a committee to review the "existing athletics program and explore new ways to support its student athletes, optimize its fiscal health, and engage with the community."
Faculty, staff, student representatives, members of the UNCW Foundation and Board of Visitors will make up the Intercollegiate Athletics Review Committee. In the release, Miller says it's necessary to take a "hard look at our portfolio." According to a memo issued to committee members, recommendations may include eliminating or adding sports programs.
The report is due in May.
