CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WECT) - The organizers of the Center of Redemption are educating communities in the Port City about the sex trade.
Dozens of people filled Carolina Beach Presbyterian Church Monday to listen to a firsthand account of sex trafficking from a survivor. The Center of Redemption is currently working with the teenager to reestablish herself.
Church member Virginia Parman said she looks forward to working with the center to raise awareness and eventually wipe out an issue that's often overlooked.
"I don't think will be able to eradicate it completely but we can certainly put a dent in it, and that's what we're trying to do here," she said.
Parman said she was glad to see a mix of men, woman and younger people in the audience Monday night. Organizers told the crowd that the center already has a relationship with local law enforcement.
