Another man charged for assaulting an inmate

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Another inmate has been charged in an investigation of assault against another man while he was in custody in the Bladen County Jail, bringing the current total to four.

According to the sheriff's office, Joshua Ward was assaulted in jail Jan. 22. Officials said he sustained injuries to his head and chest areas and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

David Wilson Gilchrist, 18, was most recently charged with assault inflicting serious bodily injury and second degree kidnapping in connection to the incident.

Mathue Johnson, 18, Twasjay Brown, 19, and Darryl Simmons, 33, were given the same charges immediately following the assault.

No motive has been identified and the investigation is ongoing.

    The Mississippi Highway Patrol is looking for a driver who ran away from the scene of a deadly crash in George County. Three children were killed in the crash. Troopers said a green 2003 Kia Optima was heading east on Highway 198, east of Depot Road, shortly before 4 p.m. on Saturday.
