COUNCIL, NC (WECT) – Officials with Piedmont Natural Gas said it will take a few days to repair a gas line that ruptured early Sunday morning.
Residents near Council in Bladen County reported hearing a loud explosion around 2:45 a.m., followed by a rumbling and a persistent sound of escaping air.
According to David Trusty with the gas company, a 12" gas line was ruptured in a rural area near Clarkton.
Trusty said no one lost service or pressure because of the break, but some commercial customers who have another source of power were asked to have their service "interrupted" to help Piedmont maintain natural gas service to residential customers.
Repairs to the gas line are expected to take two to three days.
