HAMPSTEAD, NC (WECT) - On Monday, 93 year old Elbert Davis will be awarded the Legion of Honor Medal for his bravery and service during World War II.
Davis fought in France and England during his three years in the war.
His bravery and service earned him several awards, including a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart with clusters.
On Monday, The President of France will award Davis and five other World War II veterans with the Legion of Honor Medal, the French's government's highest distinction.
"It reminds me of the boys I had in my squad," he said. "I slept in the same room with them, we trained together, played together."
Elbert says he's very proud to accept such an award, but he just wishes his former squad members could be there to enjoy the moment with him.
"I feel like I'm getting a medal for myself and them boys," said Davis.
When he returns, Davis says he plans to do more traveling in the future.
