
James Rico Gore (Source: Columbus County Jail)TABOR CITY, NC (WECT) - A new charge of assaulting a government official by strangulation was added to James Rico Gore's list of charges Friday.
A police officer sustained injuries after reportedly being injured by Gore.
According to Tabor City Police, around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday Officer Matt Turner went to the 500 block of West Sixth Street in response to a call of shots being fired.
Police say when Turner got there Gore struck him in the face then tried to take Turner's gun, causing the two to fall to the ground.
Gore also allegedly kicked Turner in the ribs and choked him.
Prosecutors say he has previous convictions of resisting an officer and assault on a government official.
Turner currently has a dislocated jaw and scratched around his neck. Gore's bond has been increased to $175,000. He remains in jail.
