WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - The city of Wilmington is currently conducting a verification of employee health insurance in order to increase efficiency and decrease health care costs, according to officials.
Not only is this important when it comes to reducing coasts, but also to ensure that public funds are used appropriately by making sure the people who are covered are qualified to participate, officials say.
The city is also using preventative care, such as wellness incentives and helping employees with prescriptions, doctors' visits, etc, as a way to reduce the cost of health insurance claims.
The verification will only affect city employees who have dependents covered by the city's insurance.
According to officials, the verification process should wrap up in May.
