WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) –The Wilmington Police Department's bomb squad found nothing harmful in the suspicious package found at the Cape Fear Public Utility Authority offices Thursday morning.
Emergency crews are clearing the scene and Government Center Drive will soon reopen.
Cape Fear Public Utility Authority closed Thursday morning around 8:00.
According to Mike McGill with CFPUA, a suspicious package was discovered at the facility at 235 Government Center Drive.
Police say a package is sitting at the main CFPUA sign, which is not a place a package would normally be. According to New Hanover County Dispatch, an employee came to work and saw a brown paper bag the size of a boot box, tied with a string and called 911.
The main building of CFPUA was evacuated while the bomb squad investigated the package.
McGill said all customers should go to CFPUA's Chestnut Street location.
