Boil water advisory in effect for part of downtown Wilm.

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – A precautionary boil water advisory has been issued by the Cape Fear Public Utility Authority for the 200 and 300 blocks of Front Street and 10 Walnut Street beginning at 11 p.m. Wednesday.

A news release from a CFPUA spokesperson reveals that crews are doing work on Wilmington's storm drain project, which will result in periods of low or no pressure for addresses affected through 7 a.m. Thursday.

Periods of low or no pressure resulting from the project increases the chances of back siphonage and bacteria getting into the water system. As a result, CFPUA officials advise that when water is restored, residents affected should boil their water for at least one full minute before using it for human consumption.

Only after water service is restored and the water quality is tested will CFPUA officials will cancel the advisory.

Keep checking for updates as they become available.
