
ELIZABETHTOWN, NC (WECT) - Former East Bladen Eagle Desmond Bryant will have his number 44 jersey retired between the boys and girls varsity basketball games on January 29.
Bryant, who graduated in 2004, is currently a member of the Oakland Raiders. The fifth-year pro started eight of the 16 games he played in this past season. Bryant, who plays defensive tackle, finished 2012 with 26 solo tackles and four sacks.
Prior to the start of the 2012 season Bryant agreed to a one-year deal with Oakland and is now an unrestricted free agent and can sign with any club.
During his time at East Bladen Bryant was a team captain of the football team. He also earned four letters in track and field and three in basketball.
A member of the National Honor Society Bryant played his college ball at Harvard where he earned second-team All-Ivy League honors as a senior after leading the team with eight hurries and 4½ tackles for loss in 10 games.
