SOUTHPORT, NC (WECT) - An old tennis court has been given a second chance in Southport.
The newly renovated courts are located across from city hall in the downtown district.
According to city employees, the courts were deemed unsafe years ago. The typical "wear and tear" got the best of the court and forced city leaders to make a big decision.
City leaders were going to renovate or tear down the original surface. They ended up renovating the property.
Locals said they're excited to try them out.
"They look ten thousand times better," said Mark Southerland. "They were red and green and had cracks all over them."
Southport city leaders celebrated the renovations on Tuesday with a ribbon cutting ceremony.
The city's parks and recreation department is planning to hold a tennis tournament at the new courts next month.
