WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - The Penguin, 98.3, devoted an hour of air time Wednesday to a well-known musician, radio host and recording artist in the area.
World-music guitarist William Strickland, best known in the Cape Fear area as Paco, died Monday night after a years-long battle with cancer.
According to his Facebook page, friends and family are planning ways to remember him, but there are no specific details yet.
Tuesday, his partner Connie wrote the following on his Facebook page regarding his death:
"I am deeply saddened to let you know that my best friend and the love of my life, Bill/Paco Strickland passed away last night after a long battle with cancer. After having the opportunity to say goodbye to many of you since August when he sensed the end was near, Paco quietly and peacefully passed while sleeping next to me.
He would want to thank all of you for everything that you ...did for us and how each of you brought out the best in him. He wants you to remember him playing his guitar and surfing "big blue". To honor Paco, we are going to have a remembrance of his life within the coming month. As you might imagine, I am exhausted and grieving.
Until then, allowing me some time alone is very much appreciated. Please know that Paco lived and died very much on his own terms- with joy, with impact, with happiness, with strength of will. Your thoughts, prayers and support are beyond words. The details of the tribute will be announced on this special page in the coming days.
This special Facebook page is where you can post condolences, reflections, and photographs.
