NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Members of the ABC Board gave $100,000 to commissioners in New Hanover County to help fund school resource officers.
In response to the recent shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, every elementary school in the county has an officer on campus.
The sheriff said the deputies working on school grounds volunteered for the job and are currently being compensated with overtime pay.
