COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) – At least one family in Chadbourn is still without electricity, now four days after a microburst damaged several homes off Joe Brown Highway.
According to Ricky Pridgen, strong winds knocked his power box off his home and damaged it. He says Progress Energy told him it would cost nearly $2,000 to repair the box.
According to Pridgen, Progress Energy said he's responsible to pay to have the box fixed. Pridgen said, however, his insurance company is willing to work with him to pay to have the box repaired.
The mobile home Pridgen's son was renting was destroyed by the microburst, so now he, his wife, son and two grandchildren are staying with relatives.
Pridgen doesn't believe the community is getting the help it needs. He says people started to back away when they learned the event was a microburst and not a tornado.
According to preliminary reports from storm teams with the National Weather Service, the microburst caused ten homes to be damaged and several trees to snap.
The damage along Joe Brown Road and Best Road showed signs of non-rotating wind speeds of around 75mph.

Sources say the man came into the restaurant with his family, got up and left, then drove his car into the building.
