CHADBOURN, NC (WECT) - Folks in Chadbourn spent the day cleaning up after a microburst caused damage in the community.
Bobby Hardie was home when the storm ripped through the neighborhood Thursday night.
"The wind was blowing, so I decided that I would open the door to see what was happening," he said. "All of a sudden, I hear a roaring and the window just flew in on me. It happened so fast, within 20 seconds, 20 seconds, it had already done the damage and (it was) gone."
Hardie surveyed the damage right after the storm. The roof on his front porch landed in his backyard. Branches were ripped off of trees. Debris from his neighbor's house was scattered through his yard.
One of the biggest surprises from the storm: Hardie's horses didn't run off when the microburst blew down the fence in their field.
"I was so amazed," he said. "I said, lord I know my horses are going to be gone. They had to be scared to death all this debris flying through here."
Today, neighbors helped him make repairs, so he and his family can stay in the house. That's just one of the reasons he has a smile on his face today.
"Out of all this that happened, I still have joy," he said. "I let nothing get me down because I know that everything here is vanity. I'm going to leave it here anyway but I am building my treasure here in heaven. So, when I get up there everything is going to be alright. I can't take this with me."
