Amanda Lawrence talks to us about her experience on 'American Idol'
WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A Wilmington singing talent is in the spotlight on this season of American Idol.
Amanda Lawrence tried out during the Charlotte auditions.
It was her fourth time auditioning for the show.
She appeared on the show for just a few seconds Wednesday night. She hopes to get more air time when the show features the auditions that were filmed in Charlotte.
We can tell you, Lawrence does make it to the Hollywood round of the singing competition.
She talked to us about performing in front of the judges this year.
"They're huge names in the industry and it was just really humbling to be standing in front of such influential people," she said. "And having them tell me that I got something and to hear I've got it and I have a chance. It was cool."
When asked about which judge she bonded with the most, her answer: Nicki Minaj.
"I didn't expect that," Lawrence said. "She was really cool and of course, I met Randy before so I felt like I have to prove to him that I got it this time. They were all super nice and very validating to me."
Lawrence said there was a calm atmosphere in the judge's room – a contrast to the highly publicized feud between judges Minaj and Mariah Carey.
If you want to see Lawrence perform live, she sings with local band, Shameless Profits. Their next live performance is scheduled for Saturday, January 26 at Hell's Kitchen.
